Wamp Server Installation and MySQL Configuration

WAMP is an acronym formed from the initials of the operating system Microsoft Windows and the principal components of the package: Apache, MySQL and one of PHP, Perl or Python.

Installation:

  1. Go to http://www.wampserver.com/en/download.php and download appropriate version, for my case the 64-bit package;
  2. Install as usual. Specify SMTP and Email if you would like to, or simply ignore.

If you want to make MySQL accessible remotely via tools such as MySQL Workbench, you need to do some configurations:

  1. Add <wamp>\bin\mysql\mysql5.5.16\bin\mysqld.exe to firewall to allow for communication;
  2. Add a new user to allow for remote access (root can not be used remotely). Open wamp –> MySQL –> MySQL Console, command:
    <enter>
    grant all privileges on *.* to username@www.abc.com identified by ‘password’;
    flush privileges;
    exit
